Pirates Steal and Pillage

So.......after watching the Pirates movie, describe each instance of 'pirating' from the movie. Describe who pirated from whom and what was pirated. Provide details. MUST BE IN YOUR OWN WORDS.

Next comment on the impact that pirating had on each company (think about the different companies involved). Is it just Apple and Microsoft? We can talk about this or you can get a discussion going here on the blog.

Remember the comments in the movie that each man in refence to a 'family'.

Do you think that there was any type of pirating within Apple itself? In other words, what about the MacIntoch vs. Apple struggle? Do some research and find out what you can about the history of both Apple and Microsoft.

Be able to talk about the rise to the top that each company has taken and impact that each company has had on technology in general.

Be able to talk about what market(s) each company competes in today. What is a market? We can talk about this as a group or start a discussion here.

What type of laws would have been in place at the time each company growing regarding intellectual property? Who was the 'enemy' at the time?

  1. Microsoft and Apple both pirated things from Xerox. Microsoft bought DOS and claimed they made it. Apple stole the GUI. Almost every single company has pirated something in the past. Steve Jobs pitted Apple and Macintosh against eachother, which made them steal from eachother. Apple has improved small gadgets, whereas microsoft has improved the bigger gadgets. The enemy for both companys was IBM, but one enemy for Apple was Microsoft.

  2. Apple stole graphic users interface and the mouse from Xerox. Microsoft then stole the graphic users interface from apple. Microsoft theoretically stole DOS from Altere because they only paid $50,000. Apple then stole DOS from Microsoft. So basically those who stole got the item they stole stolen.

Pirating advanced each company in many ways. Both companies used what they stole to make their product better and built more off of what they stole.

I think the struggle between the Apple 2 and Mac teams hurt Apple a lot. By making them compete against each other the company began to tear itself apart.

  3. Bill Gates bought an OS from a guy for 50k, and called it his own. Apple stole the idea of a disk OS from Microsoft. Microsoft stole the GUI/Mouse from Apple, and Apple stole that from Xerox. Inside Apple, the Apple II team hated the Macintosh team, and vice versa. So they stole some stuff from each other.

  4. Bill Gates pirated from apple. Apple pirated the mouse and GUi from Xerox and the disk OS Microsoft.

Pirating tore the Apple company appart. And allowed Microsoft to rise to the top. And it wasnt just Apple and Microsoft pirating.

Apple team and Mac team were pirating from each other and causing themselves to be ripped apart from the inside.

Everyone was the enemy and some laws would be that your not allowed to pirate.

  5. After watching the “Pirates movie” I noticed several pirating practices. The act of steve taking from xerox. (the mouse) and graphics interface. Xerox basically gave the information and prototype to apple without any problems. Also the act of windows creating their own design computer off of Apple’s Macintosh prototype computer. Apple also stole DOS from Microsoft.
All companies benefited from pirating. There was more than just apple and Microsoft. Altair, Xerox, etc.
When Steve from Apple decided that his company and Microsoft were “one big family” he was actually pinning Apple ll against Macintosh.
The market is very competitive because of Apple and Microsoft always jawing at each other, with new ideas, computers, ect.
